First and foremost you must have an open mind! This is the launching pad to your success. You will find that entrepreneurs are some of the most open minded people. However, the world teaches us from an early age to stay within the lines and not to think too big, because you will be let down. But successful entrepreneurs have discovered that is not true.  An entrepreneur is continually looking for new ways to accomplish goals quickly, efficiently and outside of the box. A few descriptors common to the open minded entrepreneur are: you are present in each moment of your life, when facing an obstacle you are open to all solutions, and when opportunity presents itself you identify it and quickly act on it.

Be optimistic! You should, and will, develop an alarm in your head that goes off when there is any pessimism. When the alarm goes off, you need to immediately replace it with positive optimistic thoughts. Never surrender! Reject negative thoughts and be positive. Your perseverance and determination will allow you to find a solution eliminating any obstacle in your path. Part of being able to remain optimistic all the time is to make sure that you surround yourself with supportive peers. Without this, the pessimism has a way of creeping in, bringing with it negativity.

Provide a service. This can be taken in a variety of different ways, but what I am referring to here is that you should try your best as an entrepreneur to be helpful and give back. It can be easy to get caught up in life’s journey and forget the principle of reciprocity, which states that: “when you share with someone they feel obligated to do the same”. Sharing something for free will keep you humble, and as your success grows you will need a little humility to keep you balanced. I am not saying to give away the keys to the kingdom, but don’t be unwilling to share information or a service. Just remember: You get what you give!

It can be easy to keep secrets, in fear that someone else will take your spot, but the most successful and happy entrepreneurs have faith and confidence that they will always be successful no matter what. There are many reasons for, and benefits of, the principal of service, both giving and receiving. Entrepreneurs should be helpful and look to give back or help the next guy. Typically, most entrepreneurs know how difficult it can be to build something from scratch.

“Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t so you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.”
